12TH PNG CLUSTER ASSEMBLY (September 14 – 15, 2020)

The journey continues for the SSJ in PNG as we are moved with enthusiasm and hope right after the Provincial Assembly of the Holy Family Province to our 12th Cluster Assembly.

We began on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, 14th of September 2020, with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with Fr. Srimal, SDB as presider.  As it is said in the introduction in the Eucharistic Celebration, we are all invited to “deepen our way of discipleship and realize that we are called to live under the sign of the cross, for it is the way by which we are loved unconditionally. We also celebrated all the sparks of hope that we have been gifted as a Cluster, entering into a journey to renew our way of living our mission here in fidelity to the call of the Spirit.”

After the Eucharistic Celebration, Aurora Yolanda Pugal, our Cluster Coordinator formally opened the Cluster Assembly, welcoming the sisters in the Cluster and those who were virtually present, affirming each one in her self-giving presence and untiring service in making our Charism more visible and vibrant here in PNG.  She inspired us to be the HOPE of who we are in our commitment to move towards the future.  She also presented the objectives of this Cluster Assembly and gave orientation on our tasks for these two days.

With Monica Moreno as the moderator of the day, we were led to our personal work reflecting on our just concluded 2020 Provincial Assembly experience and the re-reading of our Cluster’s Evaluation on the Provincial Operative Plan with the Provincial Assembly’s Conclusions.  After which in our respective Communities-Taller, we sought together what we want to live in the coming years. We pointed out three (3) most relevant/necessary/urgent elements/topics in each Line of Action which, as a Cluster we want to have to focus in the next 3 years.  After sharing in our respective C-Ts, in plenum, we presented our Cluster proposals for enrichment, and this was participated actively by the Sisters.

Throughout the day, we were virtually accompanied by the Provincial Team, together with Erlinda (Elma) Tuzon and Genelyn Caminian who are assigned in the new foundation in Rabaul.  We ended the day singing the “Magnificat” thanking God for all the goodness and richness that we experienced the whole day.

On the 2nd day of the Assembly, the sisters gathered at 7:30 am for the adoration to the Blessed Sacrament for us to discern in proposing a Sister who will serve as the Cluster Coordinator for the next three years. After the prayer, Crystiliza Celestial, the moderator of the day, asked the Sisters their preference of how the process of the proposal is to be done and was unanimously decided that it will be through consensus. It was an experience of open dialogue with the active participation and free expression of each one to propose to the General Team, Aurora Yolanda Pugal as the PNG Cluster Coordinator for 2020 – 2023.  The result of the consensus for Yolanda manifested the will of the Cluster and the will of God and she accepted the responsibility for the love of the Congregation and of the Sisters.

With greater enthusiasm, we proceeded to work in our respective Communities-Taller regarding the 3 most responsive and urgent activities for the next 3 years in the Cluster based on the Summary of the Cluster Reflection on the Congregational Dialogue in the Time of Pandemic, Recommendations of the Road Map and Provincial Assembly Proposals.  This led us to redefine our 4 Cluster Projects, which will be further elaborated by the Cluster in another moment.

In the afternoon, we proceeded to other important matters. One of which is how to make known better Fr. Butinya. We watched the PowerPoint presentations about Fr. Francisco Butinya.  The sisters then were enthusiastic to suggest activities that we can do in our respective Communities-Taller, ministries, projects and in the Cluster.

The evaluation of the Cluster Assembly followed wherein each Sister spontaneously shared her experience of the 12th PNG Cluster Assembly.  There were expressions of gratitude, appreciation and affirmation of each one’s presence and contribution in making this Assembly alive and dynamic. We are also grateful of the virtual presence of the Provincial Team throughout the Assembly, together with Erlinda and Genelyn.

With a festive mood and in anticipation of the 45th PNG Independence Day (September 16), we concluded our Cluster Assembly with the Celebration of the Eucharist, with Fr. Alaindelon Balasabas, O’Carm as the main celebrant and concelebrated by his two confreres, Fr. Edwin and Fr. Salvic. It was Live Mass participated in by the different Communities-Taller in the Province.  It was also during this Mass that Concepcion Cañonero was sent to her new mission in our new foundation in Rabaul.  It was graced by the virtual presence of the Provincial Team and the sisters from different Communities-Taller in the Philippines and in Vietnam.  After the mission-sending Aurora Yolanda Pugal formally closed the Cluster Assembly grateful of the growth of PNG Cluster and appreciating the selflessness of the Servants of St. Joseph who have been here and who are here right now in PNG who have made the recreation of our Charism and the expansion of our presence become a reality.

Straight from our hearts, we thank you dear sisters for accompanying us in this our fruitful Cluster Assembly.
